Down-to-earth Glasgow is no slouch in the artistic department, either, hosting as it does institutions such as the Scottish Opera, the National Theatre of Scotland, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. A visit to a Scotch whisky distillery—or two or three—offers an unforgettable introduction to that venerable and cherished libation, which you might consider using to toast while quoting, of course the national poet Robert Burns.

Travel to Scotland The lone strain of a bagpipe over a sleepy coastal hamlet, the peaty fire of a decades-aged Scotch, the roll of mist across brooding mountains—Scotland is an entrancing land apart.
Historically, Scotland has often been culturally divided by the Celtic culture of the "Highlands and Islands" and the more Anglo-influenced culture of the "Lowlands," which borders England. Until somewhat recently historically-speaking the Highlanders and the islands primarily spoke in Scottish Gaelic, and it is still in use in some areas of Scotland. The Lowlanders on the other hand mainly spoke Scots, a language that evolved from Old English.
In modern times, while the vast majority of Scots today primarily converse in English, the country does have three official languages: English, Scots, and Scottish Gaelic.
It is interesting to note that 8th-century Norse Viking invaders also left their mark on Scottish culture, particularly on the Orkney Islands and the Shetland Islands. In both island chains, many residents still celebrate their Scandinavian cultural traditions, which is no surprise as some — like those on the Shetlands Islands — are actually closer in distance to Norway than to Edinburgh. Scotland has given the world some of its best thinkers, philosophers, writers, musicians, artists and actors. Its universities are some of the oldest in the world, like the University of Edinburgh, which was founded in Scottish artists like the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists made important contributions to 19th and 20th century art.
Barrie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Despite the existence of many genres of music in present-day Scotland, the country's rich tradition of folk music is still going strong. Scottish folk music, which features the use of instruments like the bagpipes, harp, tin whistle, guitar, fiddle and accordion, has been spread throughout the world by Scotland's emigrating population.
If you are interested in hearing unforgettable music while on vacation in Scotland, consider attending the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh, which takes place annually during the month of August. A touch of outlander! Ladies in the charity shop sang us a song! So friendly!
Tandoori restaurant very good. If you go to Jedburgh go early in the day. We could have gone into the Abby but decided to have a coffe in a lovely cafe in a car park below the Abby. We then went to find our bed and breakfast stay which was down a country farm road. We went back to Jedburgh to find somewhere to eat and drink but everything except a couple of hotels was closed.
This was at 4. No time to go back the next day, as we were driving to Scotland, so a bit of a wasted journey. I liked it all! Love this area 0f Scotland! This was my fourth visit to Kyle of Lochalsh! Oban is stunning. A perfect central point for touring the West coast of Scotland. There is so much history and culture involved in this region you can't help falling in love with it. They have a train station a ferry port and airport. A really good bus and taxi service. Forget Inveraray. Head down the loch to the Creggans Inn.
If the weather is decent sit outside and watch the boats glide by. This is a gem of a place. I adore the West Coast of Scotland. Breakfast was superb even home made bread and yogurt, better than some of the top rate hotels we stayed in, would not hesitate to return again. A credit to all the hard work they put in.
Thank you. Amazing weekend! If you are looking for a new, cosy and super central apartment in Edinburgh that's the right place. Just minutes away from the main shops, station and stunning view to the Castle! Check in no fuss - only a code to get in and out- super handy! House facilities on point. Loved the super comfy bed and spotless bathroom.
Great speaker for I phone - Smart TV too. Would definitely go back to Destiny Scotland :. The hostel overlooks the bay, with private parking onsite. The rooms were spotless we chose a private room. We didn't make much use of the shared facilities but ate breakfast in the kitchen and found everything that we needed.
I'd definitely recommend staying here and will be checking out hostelling scotland's other properties, as we passed a few that looked lovely along our travels. This hotel was rated a four star hotel.
It was not. The first room we were in smelled like a cleaning solution. The staff was good enough to give us an upgraded room without extra cost. The staff was great. I understand that the hotel is due for renovations, so it could be better. I remember this hotel as excellent. I don't recall breakfast. But it was a great place to launch our vacation.

Surprising to have drinks offered for free. Location was fabulous. We came back to Glasgow before leaving Scotland, and stayed at an Air BnB, and we think this was a mistake. Wished we had cancelled and gone back to the Crown Court.

We stayed in the best room, which was over priced but clean, comfortable and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel bar, reception and general areas were all well kept and clean. Staff were helpful and pleasant. It was a 5 minute walk into Portree, downhill. If money isn't an issue, I would recommend this hotel. Liam was very nice, he has introduced us the house and the city.
The feeling was like home, many supermarket around, Aldi is 5 mins by foot. For me, it was so practical, because as vegetarian, i was so tired with Scottish hamburger. Had a balcony room, overlooking Loch Linnhe, better views you couldn't find. The Pines at Gleneagles is a spotlessly clean, perfectly decorated and comfortable apartment with a fully equipped and big kitchen. We had an absolute pleasant stay, thank you so much for your kindness and help, Raymond! We enjoyed the first three nights of our Scotland trip here very much!
The place is really quiet, very near to the five star Hotel Gleneagles. Large hotel but comfortable and quiet. Lots of great pubs and restaurants nearby. Pleasant to walk to historic Old Town Edinburgh and get the tram back. Good restaurant and bar in the hotel. We used the hotel as part of our motorcycling trip around Western Scotland, the hotel owner kindly allowed us to park on the drive as the street is permit parking. I was travelling through Scotland by train and this hotel was very handy for my short stay as it opposite the train station, and also not far from Union street..

The room was basic but neat and tidy for my short stay. As a lady travelling alone I felt very secure which was at the top of my priority list. Fab location, very central to everything Friendly helpful staff Very comfy beds Great hotel , have used before and wouldnt go anywhere else when visiting Scotland. In the Scottish highland which is gorgeous.
Hotel is like going back in time to the s Scotlands Hotels and service industry is getting better but lot still to do. Great wee hotel with fantastic bar and restaurant facilities. We were looked after by staff really well, especially at breakfast during a dire Scotland rugby match! During my travel across Scotland, I lived in 4 hotels in different cities.
Of course, Crown House is the best hotel of them. This was the gem of our accommodation in Scotland. Lovely apartment very well equipped and comfortable. This hotel is the best one we stayed in Scotland! Highly recommended for all travellers in Potree. Error: Please enter a valid email address. Error: Sorry. An error has occurred.
